How Medownick can help your eyes
At Medownick Laser Eye Clinic we are at the forefront of research and technology, because we believe each and every one of our patients should be able to achieve the eyesight they deserve.
Why you should ditch your glasses and contacts
Let’s face it. Glasses and contacts are an inconvenience that you simply grow used to. When thinking about your vision, consider the toll that contacts and glasses can take on your lifestyle. Think about the time you spend squeezing in last-minute eye appointments, ordering replacement contacts, and the small (but very real) drudgery of putting contacts in and taking them out every day. According to an independently conducted survey, the average person spends 63 hours a year managing, changing and cleaning his or her glasses and contacts – that’s more than two-and-a-half days.
And then there is the lifestyle aspect. You have surely gone for a run or played sports with glasses sliding down your sweaty nose. You’ve messed about with your contacts when travelling because sleeping in them irritates your eyes. You have run out of contacts when something unexpected comes up. You’ve fumbled for your glasses before checking on your sick kids in the middle of the night. None of this sounds horrible by itself, but repeatedly and over time, it becomes a real pain.
So, in helping your eyes see naturally, we can help you achieve a better lifestyle too.
Hope for people with high prescriptions
If you have a high prescription, you may have been told that laser eye surgery isn’t for you. That is entirely possible, but it’s also very unlikely and we urge you to get another opinion from our expert doctors. The truth is, some clinics either lack the expertise to tackle higher prescriptions, or do not wish to invest the time required to helping such patients. Medownick Laser Eye Clinic is different. We have been offering laser eye surgery for patients with high refractive errors for many years.
At Medownick Laser Eye Clinic, we have pioneered effective laser eye surgeries for very high prescriptions, and we believe in giving every patient the best possible treatment – regardless of how long it takes, or the technology required. Suffering from severe myopia (short-sightedness), astigmatism (distorted or blurred vision) or hypermetropia (long-sightedness) does not have to be a life-long battle.
For high prescriptions or severe long- or short-sightedness, we may spend a great deal of time assessing. We repeat many of the usual screening tests under extreme conditions (such as full-darkness pupillometry, reduced light contrast sensitivity testing, and dilated refractions). Indeed, we often take as long to assess a single patient as other clinics may take to see multiple patients.
That means you may need to set aside several hours for testing and screening. But when your vision is at stake, why cut corners?
How Medownick treats various eye conditions
Many options are now available to correct poor vision and improve your eyesight, and our recommended approach depends on what we unearth during our meticulous assessment process. Here are just some of the ways we can treat your eye condition:
- Laser eye surgery
- Implantable contact lenses for treatment of young people with very high refractive errors. During a short treatment, the implantable contact lens is placed in the eye, just in front of the coloured part of your eye, the iris. The lens is affixed to the iris with two tiny clips, which ensure that the lens remains perfectly in place. The procedure usually taking between 10 and 20 minutes to perform and you can go home the same day. It is minimally invasive, so most people will have good vision within a few days.
- Refractive lensectomy with intra-ocular lens implants to treat vision in people 50 years of age or older
- Treatments for presbyopia, such as laser monovision and ReFocus vision correction with multifocal intra-ocular lens implants.
- Medownick Low StressTM Cataract Surgery
- Corneal collagen cross-linking for treatment of keratoconus
In 2019, Medownick Laser Eye Clinic unveiled its latest advancement in cutting-edge laser eye technology with the introduction of the special limited-edition Schwind 1050RSL Excimer Laser. The first of its kind in Australia, the laser has a premium configuration capable of performing robotic laser eye surgery.
The robotic laser is set to revolutionise how we perform laser eye surgery on our patients, providing them with even better quality vision and a more comfortable experience during and after the procedure. Learn more about this exciting new development by booking a consultation.
