Am I a candidate for LASIK?

It’s one of the most common questions we’re asked: Am I a candidate for LASIK? If you’re considering laser eye surgery, understanding your suitability is a crucial first step. Here’s what matters most.
You might be a candidate if:
- You’re aged 18 or older
- Your prescription has been stable for at least 12 months
- You have healthy corneas and no major eye conditions
- You’re short-sighted, long-sighted, or have astigmatism
LASIK is a suitable laser eye surgery for many people, but not everyone. That’s why a detailed, personalised assessment is essential.
You might not be suitable if:
- You have very thin or irregular corneas
- You have uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune disorders
- You’re pregnant or breastfeeding (vision can temporarily change)
- Your prescription is still changing significantly
If LASIK isn’t ideal, don't despair. Excellent alternatives like Touchless Robotic TPRK laser eye surgery, SmartSight laser eye surgery, implantable lens or even lens replacement may still be options, all of which we offer at Medownick.
